“A Merry Little Christmas” Book GIVEaway
Because we just pulled out our Christmas books… and because I had an extra of this darling one by Mary Engelbreit… I thought it would be fun to GIVE it away. “A Merry Little Christmas” has darling illustrations that celebrate simple joys of the Christmas season. It’s a cheery, short read, perfect for little ones.
To enter for the giveaway, all you have to do is make a comment on this post and tell me one (or more) of your favorite Christmas books to read to your children. I’m excited to get some ideas from you for some new fun books to read around the Christmas tree. I’ll pick a random winner on Sunday Evening (say … around 8ish when my tots are in bed).
To go along with this Christmas book GIVEaway, I also wanted to share this Advent Countdown with Books idea by Rebecca Cooper. She shares a list of some fun holiday books.
Rebecca writes: “A favorite tradition in our family is our Advent countdown with books. At the end of each November, I go to my bookshelf and pull out 24 holiday books that will be included in the year’s countdown to Christmas. … After collecting the books, I then wrap them all up with wrapping paper. The final book, The Night Before Christmas is reserved for December 24th and is wrapped uniquely from the others to distinguish it so that it isn’t accidentally opened before Christmas Eve. … Once all the books are wrapped, they are placed in a special basket that is placed in our living room. The children take turns selecting a book each night and unwrapping it. Then we read it together as a family.”
Happy Christmas and Happy Holiday Reading ’round the Christmas Tree. See ya back here on Sunday.
The stories that I like to read to my kids at Christmas time are “the story of the candy cane” and “How the Grinch stole Christmas.”
We love the book “what snowmen do at night”. It’s so cute!
What a cute idea! We love The Polar Express.
The boys are saying Arthur’s Christmas right now, but I’m sure it will change tomorrow. 🙂
There are SO many! A favorite of mine is called “The Red Ranger Came Calling”. Bill and I read it on our first date together at the house we were at but I loved it before! SUCH a fun, and SO NOT TYPICAL classic in our house. Check it out!
ooo, I love Mary Engelbreit! One of our favorites is The Night Before Christmas illustrated by her. I’d love to win!
My favorite is “Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect”. We read it every year on the day we cut down our tree. I love it!
My favorite Christmas book is probably “The Christmas Miracle of Jonathon Toomey.”
hmmm, miracle on 34th street is my favorite christmas book.
We have this tradition also, although I don’t wrap the books. I keep them in a basket and the kids get to pick one each night for me to read to them. I don’t wrap them because they love looking at them all throughout the month. Anyway….
Here are some books we like:
The Christmas Alphabet by Robert Sabuda
The Annual Snowman’s Ball by Mark Moulton
Christmas in the Country by Cynthia Rylant & Diane Goode
A Cricket’s Carol by Mark Moulton
We have a Christmas Tree walll hanging with 24 ornaments, my kids pick an ornament each night and there is book/story that coincides with that ornament. My favorite Christmas stories are “Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect”, and “The Bakers Dozen” and Mary Engelbreit’s “Queen of Christmas” and SOOO many more!
My kids wanted me to post one of their favorites: The Christmas Aliens by Jack Silbert.
I love Mary Engelbreit! We would love to add this book to our Christmas collection! Some of the top books we love are ‘The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey’ By Susan Wojciechowski, ‘Twelve Hidden Days of Christmas’ (my daughter’s favorite–looking for the items is always fun! Beautiful pictures!), How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and the original book of Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer (then we always have to sing the song!) – this is the big book I had when I was a girl. :O) I love Christmas books! Thank you for the chance to win! I’m excited! I also like these other book ideas…great idea Heather! Thanks!
My daughter is still young so I do not know of a bunch of CHristmas stories yet….You can’t go wrong with a Chipmunk Christmas though or the good old How the Grinch stole CHristmas.
What an awesome idea for an Advent countdown! I LOVE it! I am going to start this with my own kids! My all time favorite Christmas Book is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My next favorite is the Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell.
LOVE your website! I’m so glad I stumbled upon it! One of our fave’s is Polar Express, and the Christmas Story in the scriptures in Luke chapter 2.
I love “The Life of Our Lord” by Charles Dickens. It’s not a great re-aloud for really young children but my tween loves me to read it to her.
I like the Christmas stocking. We read a new book each night. I like the idea that you wrap them up and they get to unwrap one each night. I am looking for more books. I love books and my son does too. I am looking for more books about the true meaning of Christmas or the giving at christmas.
We love to read “What Snowmen do at Night”, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, and all the ones that make you cry. I love the idea of the Advent Countdown with books.
We don’t have many Christmas books but one of our favorites that we just read last night was “Twas the night before Christmas”. I would love to have some idea’s on good christmas books.
“Mary did you know?” is our favorite book this year.
