the story behind ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE

This week I came down with strep throat. It’s really no fun(except the popsicle part!). But the good news is that I’ve had lots of little angels watching over our family. Bless them!

While attempting to nap during the day, I turned on UP for my 2-year-old to watch in bed beside me. He’s been loving that movie lately. He watched it several times so I heard it over and over.

Remember Ellie and Carl as little kids. They connected over a statement from one of their heroes, “ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE.”As I rested, that phrase kept going through my head. I thought about how clever little Ellie was… she sure brightened up Carl’s life with her positive attitude and adventurous spirit. Even though she never made it to Paradise Falls, she knew her best adventure was life with Carl. Cute!

What a great example Ellie is of seeking out the good in life…
What if I could teach my children
to be brave enough to try new things… (like climbing to the top of a mountain… or eating a new food… or having courage to befriend someone new…)
to enjoy the ups and downs of the journey of life…
to do good for others…
to have fun and work hard…?
These are the kinds of adventures… and more… I hope for my kids.

And thus…
“ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE” was created. Head on over to our etsy shop to get your own custom copy.

Unfortunately there is an error on the June 2012 cards.
Fortunately, Deanna spotted it and alerted me to the error.  Thank you!!!

So Sorry. Looks like I’ll have to see my error all year long as I’ve already printed mine. Sigh…

2012 One Little Word Posters

Have you selected your One Little Word yet for 2012?

I chose “Uplift.”

Haven’t heard of One Little Word? … You can find out more from… Ali Edwards: One Little Word

I also love this explanation by Sherrie Johnson:

“New beginnings don’t have to be measured in years. At one point in Paul’s teachings, he tells the Corinthians, “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). In other words, our bodies might be growing older and becoming weaker, but our inward being, our spirits, are renewed daily through Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost.

“That is one reason I like having a word for the year instead of goal resolutions. My word is not something that is kept or broken like a goal; it just floats with me in whatever I am doing. If I am cleaning house, I’m thinking rejuvenate—do it better than ever before. If I am studying, I’m thinking rejuvenate my studies — have more enthusiasm and excitement in my study. If I am with an old friend, I’m thinking rejuvenate my friendship—don’t take friendship for granted but cherish it. Instead of feeling like something extra to do, my word resolution enhances and invigorates everything I am already doing. In this way I help the natural process of letting the Spirit renew me day by day by day without getting discouraged or being tempted to give up. I love it!” (Sherrie Johnson)

I thought it would be fun to invite y’all to participate in One Little Word 2012. New in the etsy shop is an opportunity to get your “One Little Word” in print. Each custom order will be $10 but you’ll receive 2 different sizes (because it’s good to hang one in a visible spot in your home … like above the kitchen sink… and have a smaller one to use as a bookmark.) You select the wording, the colors, the fonts. You can add the year, add a scripture, add a quote… you choose!

Head on over to the Etsy and pick up your 2012 One Little Word Print now.

2012 Family Calendar

I thought I’d share something I’ve done the past few years for our family calendar. Every few years I receive a few promotional code for a Shutterfly Calendar. Love that! Free is always fun! This year a friend had a code to spare and so I got to work putting it together. I was in a bit of a rush (as it was my anniversary and all), so I sped along. This is what I came up with.

This was last year’s:

I have loved having the Primary Monthly themes on our calendar.
1. Since I look at the calendar so much, I remember to try and focus on what the kids are learning in Primary. It sure makes for a quickie FHE idea to go along with Sunday lessons.
2. I put the song for the year on the cover so it’s easily accessible when we are practicing or having a song for FHE or Morning Devotional.

I really love Shutterfly Calendars because the cardstock is very thick and durable. My kids love that I can put their photo on the date of their birthday.

Anyhoo… I thought just in case anyone else was interested in making a 2012 Primary Calendar (with their own family images), I’d share the .jpg images already set in the template for a Shutterfly Calendar (p.s. they have their calendars on ***sale*** right now). You can insert your images into the .jpg downloaded files in Picasa or use a different photo-editing software. I had fun going through all the January photos from various years and selecting my favorites… and so on for each month.

This is what you get in the download:

Download:
Zipped Folder of 8.5×11 2012 Primary Posters Calendar Pages
(with a place to insert your own family photos)

(the file is large so be patient when downloading…
you will need to unzip the folder before you can access the images)

Hop on over to Shutterfly and order your calendar before the sale ends!

The Story behind this Awesome Quote

This is Steph… my friend from BYU since oh… 1996. I was a newbie and she showed me the ropes at work and on campus. If you need a campus tour, she’s your gal. We still keep in touch. She, in Alaska, I, in Utah. Last month we were instant messaging back and forth (isn’t technology fabulous?!). We were talking (rather… typing) about all the fabulous blessings/hardships/callings we deal with in this life. Even after a hard day … and realizing things were not going to get much easier in the immediate future … what did she say?

“Tie on your bonnet, sister, we’re going to make it to Zion!”

Oh, how I laughed.
I absolutely loved it!
I’m not clever enough to think of AWESOME things like that.

Best Encouraging Thoughts EVER!

I hope I remember it always, especially when I’m melting into a puddle of tears.

We can do it people.

“We must not lose faith. We will make it to Zion! We will!”

So – if you want to join the “Tie on your Bonnet” club, go ahead and mozy on over to my etsy shop and select the design of your choice.

All proceeds from “Tie on your Bonnet” will go to Stephanie Bacon (and her husband and six boys)… because she’s such an AWESOME encouraging friend. (Now don’t embarrass me here… I don’t want to hand over $5 to her).

Don’t forget that all prints are 25% off until Christmas Eve (yikes… it’s coming up so fast!). Use code JOYFUL at checkout.
